Editing Blog

Today in class, we finished filming and and it went smoothly. I came to school late because of a car accident that happened. Although I came to school late, we were able to get right back on track and film successfully. While we were filming there was someone who was mowing the grass in the school. It was creating loud noises so it was decided that we would just film the the movements. When we got into the classroom there was problems with the computers so we weren't able to be able to use them for editing. Since I brought my own laptop today, it was more convenient for me to edit. The problem was that she have never used the photo editor on my computer so it was really weird to use. There wasnt many problems but there was some new things that was able to create.

Since I was able to use my computer to use it, I decided to have my friends use it to for dumping their film. As Gaby started doing this blog so my friends who were finished with their project helped so we could all finish. I was typing the blog as they started dumping the information to make the film and help me out. This made the process of getting the commercial done better. My partner and I didn’t start really editing yet but we will get to that soon. The editing part is when we have the time to sit down and think about how the film should go. Today was mainly about filming and dumping just like what we have been learning for weeks.

Finishing the filming process was easy because we had our props in the morning. We were supposed to film in the court below building 5 and the stairs in building 5 but we choose to do it near building 17 be had of the view. Not only did building 17 offer a better view but, it also offered better access to the natural light of the sun which will make the film look so much better when we edit it. It was better to do the film in the sun compared to in the shade because it looked better and that made us change our plans last minute. This was a change that we will benefit from later and it was a good decision to make. It will make the commercial much better looking. It was hard to record the sound because there was men cutting the grass around the school as we recorded. We tried our best to make it sound good. Gaby talked as loud as she could and made many videos of me speaking.

Filming Blog

When we started filming our blog, it wasnt as difficult as we though it would be. The only problem that we had is that we didn't bring our product which was the Dunkin' Donuts donuts and coffee. Gaby and I then decided to just do the voiceovers. The voiceovers were great as Gaby had a persuasive tone when she convince the unknown audience to eat at Dunkin Donuts. Since we were I  a public area with other students there was noise happening in our surrounding area. Because of that Gaby decided that she would raise the sound of her voice. This helped so her voice could be pointed out so when we edited, the voiceover could be taken out and edited easily. After filming we listen and of there was not a word that was not noticeably said, we would record it once more. Some of the places where we were filming was very quiet there was not a big problem with sound quality. We hope that these efforts would make editing easier.

When we tried figuring out the lighting for the clips that we were going to have inbetween the showcasing of the product. There were many close ups and full shots when we were filming but we decided that we would edit them so they will look like different angles and shots. There is much more to film as there will be different camera angles for viewing the product. We also decided to change filming locations as other students were filming by the building 5 stairs. We noticed that building 17 had better lighting be the stairs and the bus loop also had a great view. And we also used the pathway of building 17 to the bus loop so we could shoot some shots while walking to show a more approachable scene. All these places had great lighting.

In the end, Gaby and I finished filming the first segment of our commercial relatively early. There were no big problems that was happening that lead us in a disasterous state. We decided that we will film with the product this upcoming Monday as out teacher said that we would be able to film the rest of our commercial for the first 30 minutes of class. We would make the product look more noticeable with the spotlights. There was a change of location due to lighting but that was a great decision as all the videos looked clean. While filming, Gaby and I had fun trying new things and there was nothing that went wrong. We filmed with the same energy we needed in our complete commercial so there was only positive and lighthearted energy. We hope that with the product there will not be any incidences.

Storyboard for Dunkin' Donuts Commercial

The storyboard for my groups project of a Dunkin’ Donut commercial was created successfully. We are explaining how the commercial will go on the actual day we record. We are recording the commercial in two places in our school.  The commercial will start at our selected location at the patio by building 5. The voiceover will be “Have you ever had donuts? But have you ever had Dunkin’ Donuts?” I will appear with a box of donuts from Dunkin’ Donuts at the setting then there will be a zoom in on the box in a creative filter. We will be standing by building 5 stairway for the clip and the rest near the courts near building 5. The area by building 5 has great lighting and space for the production.
The voiceover at this point will be “Dunkin’ Donuts is different than any other donuts brand you have ever had." We would like to be able to put different filters on our film when editing so that will be for later. We want the commercial to look better than it might actually look in real life. Our goal is to catch the audiences eyes and to do that we need to edit out commercial to look appealing to other people. The filters can also highlight the product. We always need to make it entertaining and have a plot. Making it entertaining explains why we use the voice overs and me and my patented communicate during the commercial. We not only want to grab the audiences attention, but to make the products appealing to the eye. To do this the plot and effects that we want to contribute will need to be put together successfully and on time.
Both Gaby and I will meet up at the patio. After a few seconds of shots by herself, Gaby will ask for some of the delicious snacks and coffee with the voiceover “Dunkin not only has the best and warmest donuts but also has the most amazing drinks.” We will then zoom in on the coffee with the having some coffee and donuts together. This would make the product more remember able in the audience's heads. We will also create a lively atmosphere together and showing the varieties to give information to the audience. The varieties will include different types of donuts and beverages to acomodate them. Using the coffee and donuts to show people what dunkin products actually are and look like will make the audience be attracted enough to actually purchase the donuts. We also want to attract young millennials and the working class as they are the ones who usually coffee and sweets. Gaby and I are hoping to attract that type of audience by creating a young and active persona. We will use donuts that look appealing and advertise them the best we can.

Editing Lesson Blog

Today in class I learned, how to get my camera and the process of learning how to record and dump the footage into our SD card. Every class one of the people in my group will need to get the equipment. We return it the next class period which is usually the next two days or over a weekend which isn't as usual. I learned how to change, turn it on, insert, record, dump, and handle tripods. We need to get a new piece of paper every time we want to sign out a tripod and we have to turn it in or we will owe the school money. If we don't turn it in, we will have obligations.

I have to get a SD card and insert it into the SD card reader in the tripod. Then I put it into USB. Its required to make a folder on my desktop for footage so I don't forget a single one. The footage goes into DCIM. I have to highlight everything and move to the folder. Then I need to take the SD card out and put it back into the camera bag. AVCHD is in privacy if footage is not found then the stream will have everything in the SD card. I have to remember to remove all the footage that I've created into the SD card into the computer. After it is put into the computer, then I will import the data into the program we are using to edit our film. When I import everything, I click on import and look for my folder after clicking it. Then I highlight the footage and click start import to make sure they all import.

From there I start the editing process, I continue the process of creating footage and editing it. I then start to edit the raw footage. We are building it on AV track 2. We are building a film so, each track is a different layer of the film. Its important to remember every aspect of filming and how the correct process that this class requires. To build the film, I have to drag footage down to tracks. The editing process we are using is called Pinnacle studios. I learned that its important to import everything because I will never know which footage I will want or need. When I edit, I click razor blade to cut and split scenes or, even delete them. I can click on "T" to create my text anywhere in the film. For a new track I have to move to track 1. To export the film, I click export into MPEG 4. Its the best quality. Then I start to export and as to the desktop again. Then i add it to the folder and my edited film will be on the folder.

Planning Blog for Dunkin' Donuts Commercial

Planning for my Dunkin' Donuts Commercial, I will have to consider the necessities of the video. As I am considering the product, I must be able to give the products that we are using a type of spotlight as they are what we are doing the commercial for. Since we are doing the video in school for limited time, we must have our schedule for it to be as accurate as possible. We will make sure that while filming this blog that there won't be so many mistakes being done as we want everything to be done on time so there won't be much hurry on the deadline. we also don't want our commercial to be exaggerated as we want to appeal to everyone.

  • Props- Dunkin' Donuts coffee, Donuts and the items from Dunkin' Donuts
  • Costumes- Casual wear (dark jeans and white shirts) that are compatible with the theme colors of Dunkin' Donuts
  • Locations- The court by building 5, and senior patio. The backup would be the stairs by building 5 as it is is the same area and will give the commercial a 'go anywhere' feeling to the audience. If we are out of options in the end, the school cafeteria would be the last choice as Dunkin' Donuts is a quick service restaurant/cafe.
Schedule
  • On October 11th, I will be creating various storyboards for the commercial and skits to be compatible with it.
  • On October 14th, our storyboard blog will be due to be finish.
  • On October 22nd, will film and  we will start our filming blog. First we would arrive to school in the morning and by then we should already have our props. We will start at the court are by building 5. We will record some scenes there and also some at the senior patio. We will make sure we have enough content for a 30 second commercial and then go back to our classroom to start the editing process. When we edit it, we are going to make it entertaining and eye catching. If it rains, we will film under building 5 at the stairs.
  • On October 24th-28th, we will edit and and start our edit blog.

Research Conventions and Codes

To begin my commercial, I had to get a partner and know what we wanted to do for our project. My friend, Gaby, and I decided to work together for our project since it could be 4 or less people that could work together. We also decided to do a Dunkin' Donuts commercial since we both do have an interest in their foods and drinks. It would also be easier for us to talk about the product of our choice.

I continue researching about how to direct the Dunkin' Donuts commercial as I want it to have originality and for me and Gaby to be able to cooperate successfully. I also want to know whether I should advertise about their annual products or the promotions of their products. I could create skits for the commercial to make it more humor. There could be some sound being contributed to the humor.

I will create my storyboard as a rough draft to get all my ideas out and running. There could be different types of storyboards in the near future that are better to use than the others. I'm also thinking about who I would like to be the actors for our commercial. Since we are highschool students, some things never go as plan so I plan to create contracts for my actors and actresses in the near future. But before that I should create a storyboard that could be compatible with what I think and to make the Dunkin Donuts commercial look more real than fake.

As I have a vague understanding of this class, I think I will be very creative and quick on my feet in my videos. I wish for this blog to guide me on my journey through this class. This could help me in the future if I ever want to work in the entertainment industry.

My name is Kayla. I am a highschool student and I wish to major in computer science and/or computer engineer. I love being creative about how I live my life and finding a new ways to express myself. Learning how film figure out ways to create the best videos I can. Being creative with my work gives a sense of freedom of feeling better about how produce my work. Sometimes I like to be able to control how I continue produce my work a little bit too much. My sense of teamwork is put very well and I am able to understand the difference between working by myself and working with others.

There's many things to know about myself. Competition is something a strive for and doing my best is what I'm always willing to achieve. Hanging out with people I care about and helping them when they need it gives me great satisfaction. I'm a lover of the arts and will always draw and create when I can. There's many things that i know about myself but there are times where I dont know myself all that well. I hope that my Aice Mediastudies can show me how well I can deal with pressure and how far my sense of imagination stretches.
