Watching the extract from start to finish, the director is
trying to convey how hardship is earned when you have the correct feelings and people
near. The director is trying to show a fantasy and suspenseful genre. In the
extract, the setting seemed to be from another world and they way the
characters interacted through dialogue seemed as if there were all waiting for
each other’s next step. The message of the extract connects to the director’s
vison as it shown that a person will do what they can to have the right to have
glory with their people. When the leader is put down due to circumstances, the
followers will come to support and help him/her gain momentum once again.
In the first scene, the setting of the sea shown that there
were voyaging to another location like a seclusion. From how the two characters
appeared, it seemed more solemn during the journey. This shows that the journey
was full of hardship. The background music intensifies these feelings. The aerial shot showed how the two characters
stood in the ship from an outer point of view. It gave feelings that the world
they were living in was vast and different from reality with how the statue of
the gladiator stood. The lighting was shallow and misty as the two shot was
taken with the two men stood. The follower stood behind the ‘lord’ which showed
a sense of unity in the rough and solemn shot. The costumes showed that the
plot came from a medieval time period and had seemed mystic. The crane shot as
it goes to the Aerial shot when the ship makes their voyage. The scene is ended
with a jump cut to the next scene.
The second and final scene is when the two characters that
were on the voyage come to the meeting place. The setting seems to be dark and
mysterious. There seems to be a dark plot and tension where the characters are.
There are inserts of how the setting appears to be as the dialogue continues to
show that only there are only a few people in the room. When there is not
dialogue, there is a silence that creates tension in the scene. The dialogue is
mostly with the two men from the voyage and the man they are meeting. The
dialogue showed that the two people that came from the voyage were trying to
persuade or make the other people into helping them. When the ‘lord’ gives to,
the follower tried his best to persuade the man in his place. The make up goes
into play as the follower shows his missing fingers to defend his ‘lord’. It
shows there is a deep meaning behind it in the way he shows and lost them.
Through everything that happened in these scenes, it shows
that the director is trying to convey that hardship gets earned when you have
people willing to help you because of emotional attachment. The director’s
vision is to that people will try their hardest to gain glory and the that a
follower will defend his or hers leader to support them.
