Welcome Back!

Hello again! I am have done AICE Media Studies AS Level and decided to continue to the next level due to my appreciation of filming. This blog is to help me continue my projects and to keep up with my understanding of media studies and myself. As I am still a student and a human there is more to learn about the production that happen behind the screen. As I have a vague understanding of this class, I think I will be very creative and quick on my feet in my videos. I wish for this blog to continue to guide me on my journey through this class. This could help me in the future if I ever want to work in the entertainment industry. I am still a high school student and I wish to major in computer science or computer engineer. I love being creative about how I live my life and finding a new ways to express myself. Learning how to film figure out ways to create the best videos I can and figuring it out along the way. Being creative with my work gives a sense of freedom of feeling better about how produce my work.

Sometimes I like to be able to control how I continue produce my work a little bit too much. My sense of teamwork is put very well and I am able to understand the difference between working by myself and working with others. I also feel that I can work independently very well with what I have. While times have changed, I have not. Competition is something a strive for and doing my best is what I'm always willing to achieve. Hanging out with people I care about and helping them when they need it gives me great satisfaction. I'm a lover of the arts and will always draw and create when I can. I am even thinking about making more creations during this time. There's many things that i know about myself but there are times where I do not know myself all that well. I hope that my AICE Media Studies A Level can show me how well I can give me more of a challenge and how far my sense of imagination stretches.

Audience and Institutions Essay

To what extent is digital distribution vital to the media area you have studied?

As the filming industry changes over time, so has the way people view films. Viewing movies has grown domestically and digitally, due to the way people want constant flexible access to content and the mobility of screens. Watching films in the movie theatres has been fixed but the practice of viewing has gone beyond the big screen. It has now been more integrated and successfully applied to digital, internet, and mobile media which could be equally relevant in the distribution of the film. This allows different media platforms to promote the film and offers advantages to film companies through audience consumption.
The marketing of products in the film industry has changed drastically due to the use of new technologies. Social media platforms and the internet such as Facebook and YouTube have made marketing film digitally successful. It is was a game-changer for how films can be advertised which influence the gains of the film. The distribution of film has now become digital. This gives consumers easier access to content and promotes the profit of film companies. For example, Fantastic Beast was mainly distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures but can be watched on multiple digital streaming sites such as YouTube, Amazon Prime and iTunes. This made the film more accessible and encouraged people to watch it so they would not have to watch it in theatres which increased sales. It was also advertised by AT&T and Google which also promoted the film by making sure that screening of Harry Potter was shown often to make the film more desired. This also created synergy between AT&T and Warner Bros. Pictures as they teamed up to boost the marketing campaign and promote the film to make more profit. This was almost the same for the film Jurassic World since it also was part of a franchise. Just like Fantastic Beast, Universal Studios had released old movies of the Jurassic Park Franchise. However, they had the original Jurassic Park film air on NBC, USA, and the Sci-Fi Channel in special which were hosted by the main actor, Chris Pratt, and the filmmaker, Steven Spielberg. This was a huge promotion for the film as it was not only seen on television but also on the internet and the television network apps. There was also cross-promotion between television companies like NBC with Universal Studios to run earlier movies of the franchise so the audience could feel nostalgia and gain interest in the movie before its release.
Films also have special screenings and availabilities for consumers throughout their launch. Black Panther had a special screening in January 29,2018, of their film before its original release, February 16, 2018, to promote the film more to critics so the film will be more likely to be a success. Nearly all films are digitally sent to cinemas in this day and age. With this, films can be more wildly distributed. The film Black Panther was sent digitally as it premiered in 2D, 3D, and IMAX. Black Panther also has its own website which contributed to the distribution of the film while also providing promotion of pre-sales and merchandise. Beauty and the Beast which was distributed by Walt Disney Studios had marketed with Apple where they had a cross-media convergence where special iMessage stickers were made for the movie. This promoted the movie and showed more digital marketing. While the movie was viewed in cinemas on March 2, 2017, it only took a month for the movie to be distributed for sale digitally and for  home exhibition. It was released on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD, and ‘On Demand’ on June 6, 2017. It was also released on ‘Netflix soon after but was taken off after some time. The reason for this was because it was a recreation of a famous Disney and already had a fan-base to rely on.
Cinemas are overshadowed by the new methods of digital distribution as it benefits the film industry and gives more accessible content. Digital distribution has enormously affected the filming industry as a whole to where nearly all films are distributed digitally. It does impact cinemas negatively with the lack of people who are pay to go out and watch films, but creates profit for the film industry as people are willing to pay to be able to access their content from anywhere which promotes sales.

Final Task

This is my Final Task Film. It was very hard and complicated to complete but I am glad I was able to complete it. It is a film that I did myself and I am truly glad with the final outcome. I have been blogging about my journey in this filming class all throughput the year. I have made many achievements as my editing, directing, and filming has improved. It also made me develop a liking to not only filmography but also photography.

Games of Thrones Exerpt Essay

Watching the extract from start to finish, the director is trying to convey how hardship is earned when you have the correct feelings and people near. The director is trying to show a fantasy and suspenseful genre. In the extract, the setting seemed to be from another world and they way the characters interacted through dialogue seemed as if there were all waiting for each other’s next step. The message of the extract connects to the director’s vison as it shown that a person will do what they can to have the right to have glory with their people. When the leader is put down due to circumstances, the followers will come to support and help him/her gain momentum once again.

In the first scene, the setting of the sea shown that there were voyaging to another location like a seclusion. From how the two characters appeared, it seemed more solemn during the journey. This shows that the journey was full of hardship. The background music intensifies these feelings.  The aerial shot showed how the two characters stood in the ship from an outer point of view. It gave feelings that the world they were living in was vast and different from reality with how the statue of the gladiator stood. The lighting was shallow and misty as the two shot was taken with the two men stood. The follower stood behind the ‘lord’ which showed a sense of unity in the rough and solemn shot. The costumes showed that the plot came from a medieval time period and had seemed mystic. The crane shot as it goes to the Aerial shot when the ship makes their voyage. The scene is ended with a jump cut to the next scene.

The second and final scene is when the two characters that were on the voyage come to the meeting place. The setting seems to be dark and mysterious. There seems to be a dark plot and tension where the characters are. There are inserts of how the setting appears to be as the dialogue continues to show that only there are only a few people in the room. When there is not dialogue, there is a silence that creates tension in the scene. The dialogue is mostly with the two men from the voyage and the man they are meeting. The dialogue showed that the two people that came from the voyage were trying to persuade or make the other people into helping them. When the ‘lord’ gives to, the follower tried his best to persuade the man in his place. The make up goes into play as the follower shows his missing fingers to defend his ‘lord’. It shows there is a deep meaning behind it in the way he shows and lost them.

Through everything that happened in these scenes, it shows that the director is trying to convey that hardship gets earned when you have people willing to help you because of emotional attachment. The director’s vision is to that people will try their hardest to gain glory and the that a follower will defend his or hers leader to support them.

CCR

This video is the overall thoughts and processes I have on my Final Task project. it was a great experience to film my own preview film. It gave me a final evaluation on the film that I had created. I had fun making this and so did my family. While there a lot of up and downs, it was still a great experience overall. I had my cousin interview me in my review from a different location. I also broke the movie into 3 different parts as most of the questions related to that certain part of the movie. I added my actresses and I's thought of the movie in the end as a type of behind the scenes type of way to show them my thoughts and how the people around me contributed to the film. There wasn't many things that i could say went wring in this film as all in all it was jus a very exciting way of showing all my skills to my teachers and family. This was a great way to improve creativity and also guide my overall thoughts.

Commercial Video

The commercial project was my first project for AICE Media Studies. It was very fun an exciting as I was able to practice new skills. I made a Dunkin' Donuts Commercial with my partner at the time, Gaby. It was a fun experience and gave me a stepping stone for future projects.

Music Video Film

The Music Video was my second filming project that I did for AICE Media Studies which was fun. I posted my adventures along with my partner at the time to give the film some very fun vibes to it. It seemed very up lifting and was all around fun to create. I had no problems with film or editing for this project. most of the filming was in a P.O.V stand point. there wasn't anything that I thought to change for this film. I loved filming this as as it just the one thing I liked to do: Travel.
